Very good meal at Le P’tit Troquet in the 7e. Delicious mushroom risoto entree, lovely mixed vegetable plat, and tasty lemon tart. Shame about the glut of other Americans there. Throughout the trip, I’ve noticed that everyone is willing to, and able to, speak English. Which makes me that much less inclined to learn French.

French is a beautiful language, and learning it is its own reward.

We were in a major city and many sights that were visited were major attractions. So widespread use of English is kind of expected. The local language is more important if you go out to the smaller towns.

Besides, if they were rude about the English thing, then you would be even less inclined to learn French since you’d never want to go there again.

See, that’s where you’re wrong. Because I’m a masochist with a proper sense of order. In fact, part of the reason I decided Paris would be a good idea was I expected to be treated rudely.
