As was pointed out to me several weeks ago, Netflix has been gradually allowing its regular subscribers to test out its “on demand” streaming service on a limited basis, included with the price of admission, for a while now. I only just got myself aware of that fact, and so have only used it to catch up on some BBC programming that I’ve heretofore missed.
The first season of “Coupling,” while not everything I had been told, was rather amusing. Seeing how the second season is for some reason not available for streaming, however, I now have to resort back to the mailed DVDs to get my fix. Woe is me.
The first episode of “Red Dwarf,” on the other hand, was not amusing in the least. To those who dig on this series (Felix, I’m looking at you), for how long do I have to watch until I laugh? A couple more episodes?
I never much cared for Red Dwarf, though I’ve seen my fair share of Coupling. Coupling is pretty hit-and-miss, I’m afraid, no matter which season you watch.
The one show I’m begining to appreciate more and more is Little Britain, which I initially thought from my limited viewing was vapid, pointless and represented a definite decline in the quality of Socialised Television.

Hey LLama, don’t give up on Red Dwarf, the first two seasons they had practically no budget and were trying to get their feet wet, production design style wise, however if you make it to season 3, the rest of the ride is well worth the time and energy, probably my favorite BBC series of all time.

I have some Red Dwarf books on tape-mp3′s. I think it’s funny, but in the british way. I mean, it’s no Ab Fab, but what is? (btw, I love AbFab).

I was about to write exactly what Abed said.

Really, Felix? I must have misremembered. I could have sworn you raved about Red Dwarf. Or maybe that was Mummenschanz 2: The Reckoning?

I think the first series of Red Dwarf is wonderful – but it is perhaps an aquired taste.
If I were you, I’d skip to series 2, which I think is one of the funniest of all, and carry on from there – and go back to series 1 later. If you still don’t like series 2, it’s possible the show isn’t for you…
