I joined the Rory Gilmore Book Club on GoodReads a couple of months back, largely because I was looking for a way to convince myself to read books I might not otherwise read. Been leaning a little heavy on the vampire/werewolf/witch/telepath/necromancer-related–e.g. Charlaine Harris, Laurell K. Hamilton, Kim Harrison, Lish McBride, Christopher Moore–lately. So imagine my simultaneous dismay and glee to see the lineup for 2011. I’ve already read and enjoyed the selections for January (The Fountainhead), April (A Confederacy of Dunces), June (The Devil in the White City), September (Brave New World), and December (Life of Pi), and read and didn’t care for August’s (The God of Small Things). Oh, well. I suppose at least it’ll give me an excuse to power through Heart of Darkness, David Copperfield, and The Sound and the Fury, each of which have been sitting on my shelf un- or partially-read for years.
